The Warren St. Marks Community Garden is always looking for new members. To become a garden member, please follow the steps listed below.
Garden days start promptly at 10:00 a.m. Stop by then for an orientation which will give you a short history of the garden, explain the garden rules, tell you garden benefits, and concludes with a garden tour. While on the tour you will meet the coordinators of the various garden teams and learn what each team does and what members who join the team are expected to contribute.
And don’t forget to bring your garden gloves. After orientation and sign up you can join in the day’s tasks and complete your first garden day!
Suggested dues are $25-to-$50 per year, self-determined. A waiver is available for members who need/request it. You can pay at an orientation or go to Support.
All members must sign up to at least one work team. The teams are: chickens, compost, community plants and plots, open hours, and watering and weeding.
Members who have individual plots must sign up for two teams, with watering and weeding as one of their team requirements.
After your orientation, you will choose a team, pay your dues, and receive your garden key. The key opens the padlocks on each gate and the garden shed.
Please remember to close the locks on themselves when you open the gates.
The Community Garden is a special place. To keep it as wonderful as possible, please abide by the following rules.
- The garden is meant to be shared. KEEP THE GATES OPEN WHEN YOU ARE HERE. When you leave, either lock them or make sure other members are present and ready to do so when they leave.
- Children, bring your grownups! We ask anyone under 18 to bring an adult when visiting the garden. Children’s caregivers are welcome and must adhere to the garden rules, including keeping the gates open and cleaning up after
children (toys, etc.). - We care for and respect our plants and generous but fragile trees. Do not climb the trees (they are more fragile than they look) or step into plant beds. Please stay on the paths.
- Dogs must be registered with our membership coordinator before being brought into the garden. We welcome leashed dogs that do not dig, graze, or use the garden as a bathroom.
- Everyone loves our flowers. Please, no picking.
- Please be considerate when harvesting edible plants in the community plots: Leave some for the next member. Also, please remember not to pick anything from the private plots.
- Always try to leave the garden nicer than you found it. We live by the campground rule: take only great memories, leave only footprints (on the paths!).
- Stay safe! Any act that may reasonably be judged to cause harm, compromise safety or endanger people in the garden is prohibited.
- No smoking or illegal drug use.
- Please keep noise to a minimum. Let the birds and the wind speak louder.
- Locks are expensive. Please protect them by locking them back onto the gates — even when the gates are open.
To remain in good standing, you’ll attend four Garden Days a year (10 a.m.-1 p.m.), as well as working roughly eight hours on your work team annually.
