Dogs/Companion Animals in the St. Marks/Warren Street Community Garden

This policy will be in effect until July 1, 2002 and will be re-evaluated by the general membership on or around that date.

1) All members in good standing with companion animals who wish to bring them into the garden must register their intent by signing an agreement with the garden administrator that indicates they agree to this policy.

2) Only registered companion animals will be allowed in the garden.

3) Dogs and other animal companions are allowed in the garden anytime.

4) Animal companions must be on a leash at all times.

5) Owners will walk their animal companions prior to coming to the garden so they have the opportunity to relieve themselves in the curb.

6) Owners will clean up after their pets as necessary.

7) Owners are encouraged to bring only child-friendly animal companions into garden.

8) Parents and the owners are encouraged to teach children the proper way to approach the animals in the garden and supervise all play.

9) Any animal companion creating a nuisance by digging holes, continually barking, being unduly aggressive, or exhibiting any inappropriate behavior, may be asked to leave by those in the garden at the time of the incident.

10) Any animal companion behaving inappropriately on a repeated basis may be:

          A. Required to wear a muzzle.
          B. Banned from the garden temporarily
          C. Banned from the garden permanently.


11) Any committee made up to determine actions taken regarding animal companion behavior shall be made up of at least 50% owners of animals.
