Last Garden Work Day of the Season—Saturday, Nov. 12th

Hello Gardeners,

This Saturday, 11/13, is the last official WSMC garden workday for the season, and begins our official participation in this season’s Project LeafDrop.

Again this year, NYC budget cutbacks have eliminated Sanitation Department special collection and availability of composted autumn leaves to community gardens. Sanitation Department collected leaves end in garbage landfill—no benefit to anybody.

The WSMC steering committee suggested our participation to include the two weekends preceding Thanksgiving weekend (Saturday 11/13, Sunday 11/14; Saturday 11/20, Sunday 11/21) and the weekend following Thanksgiving weekend (Saturday 12/4, Sunday 12/5), times: 11 am - 4 pm

Please broadcast the effort bigtime among neighbors and friends, so that we’ll have an even more successful Project Leafdrop this year, and have necessary carbon rich browns for the garden’s composting.

We do need garden members to step up and participate in monitoring the collection. This is an opportunity to be a good ecology citizen, and an advocate to return NYC to its reason.

And importantly, it is an opportunity especially for those WSMC members who are a little short in their 2.5 monthly hours committed to keeping garden gates open. Please do sign up on the WSMC Online Garden Schedule.

We’re promised a beautiful Saturday for WSMC garden workday. And there’s much more news for the 10:00 am meeting that precedes the workday. Hope to see you then!
